Ready, Fire, Aim

To hit a target, choose one to begin.

Quite often, companies fail to meet their potential because they have too many targets for resources or have not defined the target clearly and communicated this to all employees.

Somewhere along the line, execution becomes "ready, fire, aim"

This targeting and execution approach creates massive opportunity for firefighting which, in its own way, is satisfying to some and very addictive at a very primeval level.  Firefights, lead to firefights, and one sees the beginning of energies spent without satisfying results.  Eventually, this destructive cycle kills a company, although many worked very hard in what to them was a very heroic struggle.  Stopping this cycle must be done, but very carefully done, as the entire interconnected chain of company operation and subsequent levels of process limited success is the byproduct.

To change, one begins carefully.  Clearly identify the core competencies within a company, the size of the market where there is a product fit, and the strengths and weaknesses of the the company against the bench mark of "best in class" competition.  Broad company involvement then drives a set of sound objectives, strategies and tactics tied to a target. The end result can be that the company pursues this target with a new vigor.

It's critical before launch, though, that the vision is within the financial and human resource capability of the company. Often, while the financial aspects are considered, they are underestimated.  This is typically due to the lack of seasoned personnel with real-life experience in new products, placement, promotion or pricing.  It's the "chicken and egg" scenario that, though there may be enthusiasm and belief without the right experience, you may get the funding wrong and without the right funding you may not get experienced people.

Sometimes, the most difficult part in driving success is to be able to "objectively" gage the depth of management and human resource available.   Non-productive emotions are the bane of everyday human existence and responsible for much of the heartbreak we see in the news everyday.  Within a company, these non-productive emotions are bound to exist. Discovering where they exist and how to turn these to productive emotions is at the heart of any company's success.

To really hit a target then, one must pick one that is within the means of the company's financial, human and emotional resources in a given timeframe. One gets ready and aims by virtue of having chosen a target that can be achieved.  Success breeds success, and so picking targets that stretch but don't break an organization's motivation is the secret to continued growth.

New visions, strategies, team building, and motivational effects take time to come to fruition. Recognizing this, planning for regular feedback on success keeps the team on track and allows for adjustments to insure success. What are the questions that must be answered and correctly acted on before implementing change to ensure lasting financial improvement? The scope of questions may cross department boundaries and comfort zones. Is the company culture able to change to adapt to the needs of a new business plan?

Are there sufficient knowledge resources, in terms of managerial and content specialists, to carry out the plans within the desired timeframe? Is the team sufficiently motivated to succeed? Do they want to take on the challenge?

We help our clients stop the firefighting cycle so that they can see more clearly and plan more ably for a successful future.  We help our clients define success by establishing clear, measurable, identifiable goals that are achievable within a realistic timeframe. We help our clients take into account suitable business models, infrastructure, processes and resources as building blocks for this change.  If managerial resource is required, we step in with interim management and help with the sourcing of new personnel.

If a culture of non-productive emotions prevails, we carry out training sessions with employees using proven methods to create immediate change and an environment of positive, motivational emotions. If the company is in the midst of crisis, we are experienced at stepping in, creating stability, and knowing and doing what works to get the company back on track.
